NYC…Here I Come!!!

Yes!!! For the first time ever, LeadTheWayOut will be visiting NYC next week. Yes!!! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell??? Since I was young, I had dreams of moving to NYC with hopes of working in the entertainment/music industry. For what I enjoy and am extremely passionate about, I’ve always felt that the opportunities in NYC were endless. Due to a few family tragedies, I became stuck in Michigan. Not knowing if I could handle the crowds, there have been many times where I was so frustrated with the lack of opportunities (both professionally and personally) in Michigan, I was ready to pack my bags and just leave, without a job or anything. Just myself, my belongings, and my car. I guess once I arrived I would find something to do with the vehicle considering that it is certainly not needed there. [Read more]

Since completing my MBA program, I’ve had a lot of time to read. In fact, it is one of my favorite pastimes (other than listening to music). Good Is Not Enough: And Other Unwritten Rules for Minority Professionals by Keith R. Wyche is one that I had just completed. This books speaks on some of the professional and personal development tasks that we should take in order to succeed professionally as minorities. Even though some of you may not think you’re not a minority due to your race, you all can forget about it because we’re all minorities because of our sexuality. Think about it, have you ever had to attend a business function where it’s typical that employees and other attendees must bring a spouse? Oh yes, you’re a minority because while every man is bringing their woman, and everyone woman is bringing their man; you wonder who you should bring: your REAL spouse or someone you know of the opposite sex.
