Remembering Michael Jackson

MJ2

It’s been 2 days since the passing of the great King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and I’m still at a loss for words.  It’s very hard to even concentrate on other responsibilities I must tend to without thinking about the man the world has lost. What some may not know is that I’ve always felt this connection with him. Even when I was about 5 years old. As I grew older and he begin to talk share more of what was going on inside his world during interviews, I grew even more fond of him and understood how he may have felt, being alone and feeling free on the stage. Michael Jackson…1958-2009

June 25, 2009

Wow…I was at the gym on the treadmill when I saw a picture of MJ on the television with “1958-2009″ just below his name. I swear the treamill almost took me for a ride because I just froze. MJ was such an inspiration to so many people, including myself, despite all the issues he faced in his personal life and in the media. My mom always tell me the story of when I was little, maybe about 1 years old, I heard Billie Jean on the radio and started shaking my little tummy to the beat of his music. I remember watching Motown 25 over and over again because of his historical performance where he first introduced us to the Moonwalk. What will amaze me even more is how we’re about to see all the news reports on how great of a man he was and all the money he’s donated, all the countries he visited trying to help the less fortunate, and the songs he recorded that had a strong and positive message. Songs such as “Heal The World“, “Will You Be There“, “We Are The World“, and “Black or White“.Till this day, I still play Butterflies from his Invincible album. [Read more]

India Arie Gains Another Fan

I took my wife to see India Arie perform at Chene Park last night in downtown Detroit. I must admit, I’m not a big India Arie fan . Not that I have anything personally against her (I do like “I Am Not My Hair” because I can personally relate to her story and reason behind cutting it off), I’m just more into my rap and hip hop. I like music that makes you bob your head so hard that your neck hurts the next day. It’s something about the way the music makes me feel. I grew up listening to the music and instrumentation of songs, not the lyrics. Well, Ms. Arie made me listen to her lyrics and I walked away with a new artist to add to my list of favorites. Motor City Pride

My wife and I attended Motor City Pride yesterday, which is one of many LGBT festivals in Michigan. The festival was held on 9 mile between Woodward & Livernois in Ferndale, MI; a new layout that provided additional space for vendors, entertainment, and patrons. Being that it is Michigan, and we experience some extremely sporadic weather, it was surprisingly nice, but very warm and humid. [Read more]
